Findmypast’s address search tool allows you to delve into the history of your house or town, or find out who was living at a particular address at a given point in time. This unique feature is available on the following record collections:
- 1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census
- 1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census
- 1861 England, Wales & Scotland Census
- 1871 England, Wales & Scotland Census
- 1881 England, Wales & Scotland Census
- 1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census
- 1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census
- 1939 Register
- Australia Electoral Rolls
To search for an address rather than a person, select 'Address' from the 'Person/Address' toggle switch at the top of the dedicated search screen of any of the above record sets. Depending on the collection you’re searching, the available search fields will change to include a combination of street, place, area, borough/district/sub-district, parish, town, county/state and country.
Once the required census year has been selected the search page will then load and the option to search by address for that census year will be available. Simply switch from the 'Person' tab to the 'Address' tab on the search page, enter the details on the address you're searching for and hit search.
Your search results will return a list of all the properties based in the area you’ve searched for. From there, simply select the house you're interested in and you will be taken to the record for that property.
Top tip: The address search tool also recognises abbreviations ('St' for 'Street', 'Rd' for 'Road' etc.)
As well as address search, the 1939 Register can also be explored using our exclusive map search.
